Why is it worth visiting Chicago?
Chicago, or the Windy City
Chicago has gained at least a few nicknames over the years, the most popular of which is certainly the Windy City. Some sources claim that this is only related to its location since the immediate vicinity of a large lake is said to cause a constant, strong breeze. However, what is the most interesting here are other theories about the ‘nickname’ of this phenomenal place, one of them says that the politicians and residents of Chicago have given the city such a nickname due to the fact that in the past they were referred to as ‘full of hot air’, which can be described as… pompous!

Lincoln Park Zoo
Visiting Chicago without spending a dime? Nothing easier than that! – a great place to spend a few good hours is the Lincoln Park Zoo. Open 365 days a year, always free, a home to wild cats, polar bears, various species of monkeys or penguins, offering additional attractions (concerts, theatre plays) during the summer, it is a relaxing point for city residents and an interesting stop for tourists. It must be mentioned that at the Zoo you can find the oldest oak in the city – dated as far back as 1830 which is 3 years before the foundation of Chicago.
Nature Boardwalk
It is worth taking an almost one-kilometre long walk through Nature Boardwalk and make some of the most beautiful photos of the city panorama, a combination of numerous alleys immersed in nature and a magnificent view of skyscrapers makes an amazing impression. From here, it’s only a short walk to the popular North Avenue Beach and the promenade along Lakefront Trail.

Navy Pier and Pizza a la Chicago
Moving towards the city centre, we come across several aquatic restaurants and other beaches, an hour-long walk with an additional amusement in the form of the amazing view of skyscrapers, will lead us to another Chicago attraction – the pier. The landmark of the bridge is the ferris wheel, and the scattered shops and restaurants provide entertainment and relaxation. On Navy Pier there is also one of the most famous Chicago pizzerias ‘Giordano’s’, serving an original pizza characteristic for this city known as the deep dish. Baked in the oven in a deep dish, it resembles a dough, and the ingredients are arranged exactly opposite to what we know in a traditional pizza – cheese at the bottom, sauce on top.
Iconic Views of Chicago
The city is worth admiring from a different perspective from the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower. It worth overcoming your fear of heights and taking some impressive photos on the glass floor of the observation deck. A trip to Chicago would not be complete if it wasn’t for a visit to Millennium Park and the famous Cloud Gate or simply, the Bean. The ten-tonne sculpture has been the most recognisable landmark of the city since 2006 and it must be acknowledged that it has slightly overshadowed the popularity of another great attraction of the park – the Crown Fountain which is a video fountain on which faces of the city’s inhabitants are displayed. Not far from here it is worth looking for the sign of the beginning and end of the legendary Route 66, connecting Chicago with Los Angeles (actually Santa Monica).
The combination of beautiful parks with views of the urban jungle, perfect places to relax, soak up the culture or satisfy your business acumen, beautiful lakeside location, beaches at a distance a just a few minutes to the centre, and entertainment piers. In one sentence – as one of the city portals says – choose Chicago!
